Requirements regarding camping in Hawaii vary by jurisdiction, island, campsite, and facilities. The following information applies to the Island of Maui. Note: Camping information is subject to change without notice. Please contact the applicable local office for current information.

Hours: 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Mon.-Fri. (Closed weekends/holidays)
The following information applies to camping at Maui's County Parks. For more information, please contact the above office.
  • Tent camping and self-contained mobile campers are allowed. Cabins are not available.
  • Permits are required - applicants must be age 18 or older.
  • Permits are available from the above office. If requesting a permit by mail, please allow at least 2 weeks to process permit.
  • Permits for Papalaua campsites (see below) are also available at the West Maui Parks Permit Office located at the Lahaina Civic Center open 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Mon.-Fri., closed weekends/holidays, tel. (808) 661-4685.
  • Campers must have a copy of the permit with them during their stay.
  • Camping is subject to a maximum stay of 3 consecutive nights.
  • Campsites are shared on a first come/first served basis.
  • Fees for camping are adult (18 years and over) $3.00 per night; minor (under 18 years of age) $0.50 per night per person.


COUNTY PARKS WITH CAMPSITES

KANAHA BEACH PARK
Amala Road, Kahului
(Central Maui)
Windsurfer's haven. Wooded and beach sites. Facilities include restrooms, showers, picnic tables. No drinking water at campsite but drinking water is available nearby. No open fires allowed. Note: campsite is normally closed for maintenance the last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each month (please check with the above County office).

PAPALAUA WAYSIDE PARK
Honoapiilani Hwy, Lahaina
(West Maui)
A wilderness campground on the ocean located approximately 4 miles south of Olowalu between Mile Markers 11 & 12. No running water. Portable toilets, benches, BBQ grills. Open fires are not allowed. Daily security between 6pm-10pm. Note: campsite is normally closed for maintenance every Thursday (please check with the above County office).
