PALAAU STATE PARK End of Kalae Highway (Highway 47) (Central Molokai District) 233.7 acres with a scenic overview of the historic Kalaupapa to which persons with Hansen's Disease (leprosy) were once banished. Short trail leads to a phallic stone thought to enhance fertility. Tent camping only in an ironwood grove. No drinking water is available. WAIKOLU LOOKOUT AND PICNIC AREA Access to the campsite is along the unsurfaced Molokai Forest Reserve Road one mile past Lua Moku Iliahi off Kamehameha V Highway (Hwy 450). A 4-wheel drive is required. Located at the 3,600-foot elevation, the Lookout includes a magnificent panorama of Waikolu Canyon - from the verdant cliffs of the upper gorge with waterfalls and plunge pools, to the ocean, sea cliffs and offshore islands lower down. There is a picnic area, restrooms, but no water. Picnickers and campers must bring their own drinking water. No open fires are allowed. (Note: the view from the Lookout is sometimes obscured in the afternoon when tradewind clouds envelop the upper Waikolu Canyon.) Top

ONE ALII PARK Located on Kamehameha V Highway (Hwy 450) A pretty beach park on Molokai's leeward shore. Restrooms, showers, picnic tables, drinking water. PAPOHAKU BEACH PARK Located on the west end of Molokai The longest white sand beach in the Hawaiian Islands. A priceless expanse of sand and pounding surf extending three miles - for those seeking the ultimate in isolation. Restrooms, showers, picnic tables, drinking water.
