(808) 969-9700 Hawaii's new astronomy center bridges culture with the cosmos, featuring interactive exhibits and a state-of-the-art 120 seat planetarium that makes the connection between Hawaiian voyages of discovery and the discoveries made daily by astronomers on Maunakea. Greenwell Store, is under restoration. It is scheduled to re-open in January 2007 as a museum exhibit of a general store in the year 1890 Kona. (808) 962-6300 A restored 1900's station agent's house and train landing in the "old town" of Laupahoehoe offers visitors a look back at a unique railroad heritage. A narrow gauge, diesel switch engine has been made to run again. A narrow gauge box car awaits restoration and a standard gauge caboose has been built, similar to those that ran down the line of the Hilo railroad. Entry charge. When silent movies became available, the plantation management provided each town with its own movie theatre.
