Your Hostess |
| This is Akiko.
She harvests the banana, guava and lilikoi that grow on the grounds and get whipped into your breakfast smoothies. She bakes bread, makes some "mean" French toast and homemade waffles (Of course it varies with how long you stay). She's also an artist, a writer of children's books, and sells gorgeous Puna Goldtm plants and blooms. Akiko's Bed and Breakfast is located 15 miles north of Hilo in a little village of 12 families, mostly elders who have been here forever.

"Our visit to this peaceful place stands out as the highlight of our vacation. We felt at home in the little village and truly pampered by Akiko. Excellent breakfasts, good conversation and the opportunity for spiritual reflection all were part of a memorable visit. We look forward to a return trip."
"It was most precious experience I had lately. Silence, song of birds, gentle melody of wind bell, warm heart people of Wailea and guests, Akiko's natural home-made breakfast from her farm, her talk about traditional Hawaii, artistic energy, Zen purifying your spirit, great nature...etc. Different Hawaii never be found on the guide book."
"There's nothing quite like Akiko's B&B. And, there's no one like Akiko herself. We were referred by a friend and were delighted to spend 10 days in the clean, quiet and homey environment which Akiko provides. We really didn't want to leave. Early morning chats round the breakfast table with Akiko put us in a perfect mood for exploring this remarkable place (don't miss the great breakfasts of tropical fruits which Akiko gathers each day from her own garden). Ivan recommends the picturesque turn-of-the-century coastal villages, and was pleased to be so close to funky Hilo (the Seaside restaurant an absolute "must"). We did several day trips down to the dense jungley Puna coast with its intimate black sand beaches, or up along the spectacular Hamakua coast within easy reach of a hike through deep and inviting Waipio Valley. Ellen continues to rave about the charming historic Hawaiian villages of North Kohala - with their local bakeries turning out utterly first class cinnamon buns!"
"Akiko is a warm and generous host - truly shares the spirit of Aloha. And her B&B really represents the best of old Hawaii...charming, authentic, genuine. A peaceful wonderful place."
"Before receiving, there must be giving." --Lao-tzu
"A visit to the Buddhist Bed & Breakfast showed me that things are rarely what they appear to be. Ms. Akiko offers a type of cordiality and graciousness rarely found in many parts of our world. In the simple rustic setting, one learns to open one's heart."
I was looking for a B&B with a personal touch, good value and close
proximity to Hawaii's natural beauty. I found more than that at Akiko's
B&B. I found inspiration. The B&B is an example of a dream realized.
Other highlights of our stay included touring the garden & harvesting
tropical fruit, the garden-fresh full breakfast, the peaceful, meditative
atmosphere and our conversations with our host, Akiko.
