"NIAULANI NATURE WALK" - FREE FOREST TOUR IN VOLCANO
Place: Volcano Art Center, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Volcano, HI 96785, 967-8222

(Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29) - This one-hour nature walk travels through a lush portion of an old-growth Hawaiian rain forest on an easy, 1/7-mile loop trail. The walk introduces individuals, families, and groups to the native plants and birds of Volcano. Guides focus not only on the biological, ecological, and geological features of the area, but also the cultural usages of flora and fauna by native Hawaiians. Offered every Monday at 9:30 a.m., the weekly walk starts just one mile from the entrance to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Meet at Volcano Art Center's Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village (corner of Kalanikoa and Old Volcano Roads). Free (calabash donations welcome)

LOMI LOMI WEEKEND WITH PAPA K

Papa K Kepilino, trained in the art of lomi lomi since the age of 6, will teach this three day class. It will include basic instruction in lomi lomi techniques, the spiritual background of lomi lomi, basic use of la'au lapa'au with lomi, lomi alignment techniques and healing with the breath of Ha.

"NIAULANI FOREST WORK DAY" IN VOLCANO

9 a.m. to 12 noon - Enjoy the open air while volunteering to help preserve the beauty and diversity of the native, old growth rainforest at Volcano Art Center's Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village (corner of Kalanikoa & Old Volcano Roads). Held on the third Sunday of each month, these work days are a unique opportunity for individuals, families, and groups to connect with nature and with each other while assisting in a variety of needed tasks, plus learn about the rich mixture of flora and fauna on the 7.4 acre property.

Plan a unique Christmas this year in Hawaii in our quiet little village of Wailea at Akiko's Buddhist Bed and Breakfast: join us for the Wailea Village 11th annual mochi-tsuki celebration in making traditional rice cakes the "old-fashioned" way. The oldtimers share their stories of plantation era times and everyone takes their turn at pounding the glutinous sticky rice for good luck. Fire building starts at 6 a.m. to steam the rice.
