46TH ANNUAL PARKER RANCH JULY 4 RODEO

Award-winning Independence Weekend tradition includes action-packed rodeo events, keiki (children) activities, ono (delicious) food and more. Parker Ranch paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) are joined by other Big Island paniolo for a corral of traditional rodeo events from 9:00 a.m. until noon at Parker Ranch Arena, Waimea.

VOLCANO VILLAGE JULY 4 PARADE & CELEBRATION

Come for the parade & stay for the fun & great food! The parade leaves Volcano Post Office at 9 a.m. sharp, rain or shine, goes down Old Volcano Hwy to Wright Rd and ends at Cooper Center, less than 1/2 mile. See floats, antique cars, and the HI County Band! The celebration includes kids games, dunking pond, food booths, craft fair, live music and entertainment, and a Silent Auction. NIAULANI NATURE WALK AND FOREST TOUR

(July 7, 14, 21, 28) This one-hour nature walk travels through a lush portion of an old-growth Hawaiian rain forest on an easy, 1/7-mile loop trail. The walk introduces individuals, families, and groups to the native plants and birds of Volcano. Guides focus not only on the biological, ecological, and geological features of the area, but also the cultural usages of flora and fauna by native Hawaiians. Offered every Monday at 9:30 a.m., the weekly walk starts just one mile from the entrance to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Meet at Volcano Art Center's Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village (corner of Kalanikoa and Old Volcano Roads). Free (calabash donations welcome). 9:30 p.m.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - 28th Annual Cultural Festival - The Year of the Paniolo. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy hula and music and join in Hawaiian arts, crafts and food tasting. Festival is free and offers opportunities to purchase Hawaiian crafts, plate lunches and festival T-shirts. Located off Hwy 11 between 70 and 71 mile-markers. Free admission.
