In addition to beings used for book sales, donated materials sometimes end up on the shelves. Librarians withdraw and add materials to the library collection every day, working to keep the collections fresh, in good shape, diverse and relevant to their community. Relatively recent books in good condition are checked against the library inventory. If the library already has a copy of a donated item, the staff checks the condition of the item on the shelf and may replace it with the donated one if it is in better condition. If another library on Kauai doesn’t have the item, it will be offered it to them. Have fun while helping us raise money to support our neighborhood library, and go home with a supply of new reading materials for the whole family. Did we mention the incredible prices? At $2.00 for hardbacks and $1.00 for paperbacks you can’t go wrong. All funds raised at the used book sales go to support the programs and services of the Lihue Public Library, a 501c3 non-profit organization. Cash donations are welcome and are tax deductible.

The Sanctuary Ocean Count project offers the community a chance to monitor humpback whales from the shores of O`ahu, Hawai`i and Kaua`i. Not only has this proven to be a fun volunteer activity for residents and visitors, but it also helps to provide important population and distribution information on humpback whales around the Hawaiian Islands. Both site leaders and general volunteers are needed for all islands. Of course, the count cannot be done without the help of enthusiastic volunteers - we hope you'll consider taking part in this fun opportunity.

One of a kind performance by Hawaiian slack key's most prolific composers, Doug & Sandy McMaster. Enjoy the magic soothing ambience of this fingerstyle, instrumental musical artform created by Hawaiian paniolo (cowboys) in the early 1800's. The longest running concert of it's kind, set in a relaxed, family style building in the hamlet of Hanalei on the north shore of Kauai nestled against the emerald green mountains, rich taro fields, incredible rainbows, with soft tradewinds carrying the sounds of surf and Hawaii's birds through the building. Experience slack key music in the real old style while learning about it's history, legendary players, and the history, culture, and environment of old Hawaii. Incredible value and one of the most aloha experiences in Hawaii. Audiences consistently rate this show Excellent - a highlight of our trip!
