Excitement Mounts as Honolulu Ekiden and Music Festival Nears
The date for the Fifth Annual Honolulu Ekiden and Music Festival, a massive relay race with a Japanese twist, is rapidly approaching. On Sunday, May 21st, hundreds of runners dressed in their favorite superhero and character costumes will set out on a marathon-length relay race around the beautiful south and east shore of Oahu, then back to Queen Kapi‘olani Park. The race course is divided into six sections. Relay teams can consist of two-to six-participants. The Music Festival at the Waikiki Shell features a star-studded lineup, including hip-hop, reggae and rock sensations, Dirty Heads, (“My Sweet Summer”), Grammy-nominated Gin Blossoms (“Hey Jealousy”), Japanese singer-songwriter Piko Taro, (best known for his viral hit “Pen Pineapple Apple Pen”) and Japanese rock band FLOW (who wrote and performed “GO!!!,” the opening theme song for “Naruto”) at the Waikiki Shell. To register for the race, go to www.hnlekiden.org. For concert tickets, go to www.ticketmaster.com.
