This holiday season Darth Vader and Imperial Stromtroopers from the Pacific Outpost-501st Legion have pledged their allegiance to be Santa's little helpers. Their mission will be to lay siege on Honolulu Hale (City Hall) to collect new and unused toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. Dressed in full costume, these fearless troopers will collect toys from all comers for this worthy cause.

VANS TRIPLE CROWN OF SURFING

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is the world's premier series of professional surfing events and annually crowns the world champions of the sport. Staged on Oahu's North Shore, the series features 3 events for men and women: Haleiwa November 12-23; Sunset Beach November 24-December 6; and the Banzai Pipeline December 8-20. alternativehawaii.com. Competition for each individual event takes place on the four biggest days of surf within the allotted period. This series features the world's top men and women surfers in waves of up to 30 feet.

This one-day big wave event in honor of Eddie Aikau - one of Hawaii's most famous big-wave riders and watermen - takes plae ONLY when waves at Waimea Bay exceed heights of 30 feet. alternativehawaii.com. When they do, 28 of the world's top big-wave riders gather at Waimea Bay to compete in the giant surf and ride in honor of Aikau. Aikau was Waimea Bay's first lifeguard and one of the pioneer big wave riders.
