STOP 1:	IAO VALLEY STATE PARK	PHOTOGRAPH
START:	KAHULUI AT HWY 380 & 36
DIST/TIME:	6.5 Miles/Approx. 18 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	Last Traffic Light in Wailuku

ROUTE:

Turn left off Hwy 380 onto Hwy 36 heading for Kahului
Go short way (0.8 mile) to Jct. Hwy 36 & 32
Turn left onto Hwy 32 & go 2.8 miles to Jct. Hwy 32 & 30 (last traffic light in Wailuku)
Cross traffic light and continue short way (0.7 mile) on Hwy 32 to fork in road at sign for Iao Valley
Take right fork and go 2.2 miles to parking lot at end of road

An awe inspiring sacred valley. Location of the Iao Needle: a State monument and symbol of Maui (2,250 feet high from sea level). Exotic botanical gardens, pools, waterfalls, streams, overlooks, walkways.

Note: free admission. Open 7 AM-7 PM.Tel. 984-8109. Restrooms.

Caution: swim at your own risk-rocks are slippery, water levels are subject to rapid change. Do not leave valuables in car or unattended.

STOP 2:	KEPANIWAI PARK	PHOTOGRAPH

WATCH FOR:	Park Entrance (Right Side)

ROUTE:

Leave Iao Valley parking lot and go short way (0.7 mile) to Kepaniwai entry road (right side)
Turn right and take entry road to parking lot

A model immigrant village with cultural heritage gardens. Picnic areas.

Note: Hawaii Nature Center (private, non-profit organization) next to the park- call 244-6500 for information on guided hikes into Iao Valley. Gift shop, interactive nature museum, open daily 10:30 AM-3:30 PM. Restrooms.

STOP 3:	BAILEY HOUSE MUSEUM	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	KEPANIWAI PARK
DIST/TIME:	1.9 Miles/Approx. 5 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	Sign-Bailey House (Right Side)

ROUTE:

Leave park. Turn right and go 1.5 miles to stop sign at fork in road
Keep to left at stop sign and go short way (0.4 mile) to Bailey House Museum (right side-before next traffic light)

A fine example of early (1833) missionary architecture in Hawaii. Museum and gift shop.

Note: nominal admission charge. Closed on Sundays. Tel. 244-3326. Restrooms.

STOP 4:	WAILUKU CITY	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	BAILEY HOUSE MUSEUM
DIST/TIME:	0.5 Mile/Approx. 4 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	2nd Traffic Light

ROUTE:

Turn right out of Bailey House Museum
Go to second traffic light at Hwy 32 & 33
Turn left onto Hwy 33 N (N. Market Street)
Take first street on left to public parking lot

County seat of Maui. Quaint historical town. Antiques, art galleries, churches. Good local food.

STOP 5:	WAIHEE BEACH PARK	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	WAILUKU PARKING LOT
DIST/TIME:	4.2 Miles/Approx. 10 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	Waihee County Park (Right Side)

ROUTE:

Leave parking lot the same way you entered
Turn left onto Hwy 33 N (N. Market Street)
Go 2.1 miles, through old Wailuku, to junction with Hwy 340 (Hwy 33 N soon becomes Hwy 330 and, at junction, Hwy 330 becomes Hwy 340)
Keep to left at junction
Continue 1.2 miles on Hwy 340 to small sign for Waiehu Golf Course at Halewaiu Road in Waihee (right side-after Waihee County Park)
Turn right onto Halewaiu Road & go to golf club parking lot at end of road
Take road on left to Waihee Beach Park

Great for beachcombing. Picnic area. Restrooms.

Caution: do not swim-strong currents.

STOP 6:	CAMP MALUHIA	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	WAIHEE BEACH PARK
DIST/TIME:	3.9 Miles/Approx. 11 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	Sign-Camp Maluhia (Left Side)

ROUTE:

Leave Waihee Park and return to Hwy 340
Turn right onto Hwy 340 and go 3.1 miles to entrance for Boy Scouts Camp Maluhia (left side)

Beautiful drive with great coastal views. Waihee Ridge hiking trail begins at entrance to the camp.

Note: Camp Maluhia is not open to the public.

Caution: drive carefully. Steep, narrow and winding road-watch for cattle and falling rocks.

STOP 7:	HALEKII-PIHANA HEIAUS	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	CAMP MALUHIA
DIST/TIME:	5.5 Miles/Approx. 15 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	Jct. Hwy 340 & 330

ROUTE:

Turn around at entrance to Camp Maluhia
Return 4.3 miles to Jct. Hwy 340 & 330
Keep left on Hwy 340 and go short way (0.9 mile) to Kuhio Place (fourth street on right side)
Turn right onto Kuhio Place
Take first left onto Hea Place & go uphill to parking lot for heiaus

Halekii (circa 1240) and Pihana heiaus: ancient temples of sacrifice and refuge. State monument. Panoramic view of Central Maui.

Note: open 7 AM-7 PM. Please respect the Hawaiian archaeological sites and do not remove the stones.

STOP 8:	MAUI ARTS & CULTURAL CENTER	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	HALEKII-PIHANA HEIAUS

WATCH FOR:	Sign-The Center (Right Side)

ROUTE:

Leave parking lot and return to Hwy 340
Turn right onto Hwy 340 and go short way (0.6 mile) to traffic light
Turn left and continue short way (0.7 mile) to the entrance road for Maui Arts & Cultural Center
Turn right and go short way (0.2 mile) to parking

First & finest comprehensive arts facility in Hawaii. Theaters, art gallery, gift shop.Tel. 242-2787. Restrooms.

STOP 9:	QUEEN KAAHUMANU CENTER	PHOTOGRAPH

Leave parking lot and return to Hwy 340
