STOP 1: BALDWIN HOME PHOTOGRAPH
START: LAHAINA AT
505 FRONT STREET MALL		  
DIST/TIME: 0.4 Mile/Approx. 2 Min.  
WATCH FOR: Banyan Tree (Left Side)  
 ROUTE:
  • Leave shopping mall. Go uptown to Baldwin Home at Front & Dickenson Streets (right side)
Missionary home, now a museum, built in 1834 when Lahaina was the whaling capital of Maui. Located in Lahaina's shopping and dining district.

Note: nominal admission charge. Open daily. Tel. 661-3262. Ask for free walking tour map of historic Lahaina (over 30 historical sites including churches, prison, sugar mill, courthouse). Lahaina is also the art center of Maui (dozens of art galleries).




STOP 2: WHALER'S VILLAGE PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: BALDWIN HOME MUSEUM  
DIST/TIME: 3.8 Miles/Approx. 10 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: First Entrance to Kaanapali  
 ROUTE:
  • Continue 1.6 miles along Front Street to traffic light at intersection of Front Street & Hwy 30
  • Turn left onto Hwy 30 W & go 1.7 miles to first turn off for Kaanapali at Halelo Street traffic light
  • Turn left and go short way (0.5 mile) to Village

Beautiful Kaanapali Resort shopping center. Open daily. Tel. 661-4567. Art galleries, restaurants, fascinating Whaler's Museum.

Note: free admission to the museum. Public walk along Kaanapali Beach-good swimming on calm days.




STOP 3: ALII KAHEKILI PARK PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: WHALER'S VILLAGE  
DIST/TIME: 1.9 Miles/Approx. 5 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Kai Ala Drive-Hwy 30  
 ROUTE:
  • Return to Hwy 30
  • Turn left onto Hwy 30 W and go 1.3 miles to Kai Ala Drive (next traffic light)
  • Turn left and go to beach parking lot (right side)

Long sandy beach. Great for sunbathing, expert snorkelers and scuba divers. Good swimming on calm days. Picnic pavilion.

Note: park gates locked at 6:30 PM. Restrooms.





STOP 4: NAPILI BAY PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: ALII KAHEKILI PARK  
DIST/TIME: 5 Miles/Approx. 10 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 29-Hwy 30  
 ROUTE:
  • Return to Hwy 30
  • Turn left onto Hwy 30 W and go 3.9 miles to Napili Exit (at Mile Marker 29)
  • Turn left at Napili Exit onto Napilihau Street & go to end of Napilihau Street
  • Turn right onto Lower Honoapiilani Road
  • Go short way (0.6 mile) to Hui Drive (left side-at sign for Napili Bay)
  • Turn left and go to sign for beach access

Beautiful bay. Good swimming on calm days.

Caution: strong surf causes rip currents. Sandy bottom drops off quickly. Beach can be dangerous for children and poor swimmers.





STOP 5: KAPALUA BAY PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: NAPILI BAY  
DIST/TIME: 0.5 Mile/Approx. 2 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Sign -Napili Kai Beach Club  
 ROUTE:
  • Turn left from Napili Bay access road onto Lower Honoapiilani Road
  • Go short way (0.3 mile) to Kapalua Bay access road (left side-just after Napili Kai Beach Club)
  • Turn left and go to beach parking lot (right side)

Very picturesque bay. Rated one of the world's best beaches. Gentle slope to deeper waters offshore. Good novice snorkeling and scuba diving beach on calm days. Showers and restrooms.





STOP 6: D. T. FLEMING BEACH PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: KAPALUA BAY  
DIST/TIME: 2.9 Miles/Approx. 9 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 31-Hwy 30  
 ROUTE:
  • Leave Kapalua Bay parking lot
  • Turn left onto Lower Honoapiilani Road and go short way (0.7 mile) to stop sign at Office Road
  • Turn right onto Office Road and go short way (0.8 mile) to Hwy 30 (past Ritz Carlton Hotel)
  • Turn left onto Hwy 30 W and go 1 mile to sign for Lower Honoapiilani Road at Mile Marker 31
  • Turn left and go short way (0.3 mile) to Fleming Beach parking lot (right side-at bottom of hill)

Long, sandy beach popular with locals and visitors. Great beachcombing after storms. Picnic area.

Note: picnic tables, lifeguard. Showers and restrooms.

Caution: swimming can be dangerous. Kona storms and heavy surf can create rip currents and powerful shorebreak-check with lifeguard on duty.





STOP 7: HONOLUA BAY PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: D. T. FLEMING BEACH PARK  
DIST/TIME: 0.9 Mile/Approx. 4 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 32-Hwy 30  
 ROUTE:
  • Return to Hwy 30
  • Turn left onto Hwy 30 W & go short way (0.6 mile) to third wide dirt pull-off after Mile Marker 32 (left side)
  • Park car and walk downhill to beach

Beautiful beach. Excellent swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving spot for novices on calm days. During winter months, considered one of the best board surfing spots in the world.

Note: Honolua is a Marine Preserve. Spear fishing, shelling, removing coral, etc. is not allowed.

 

STOP 8: KAHAKULOA VILLAGE PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: HONOLUA BAY  
DIST/TIME: 12 Miles/Approx. 35 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 15-Hwy 340  
 ROUTE:
  • Continue 12 miles to wide, dirt pull-off for village overlook (left side-just beyond Mile Marker 15 on Hwy 340).
    (At mile marker 40, Hwy 30 W becomes Hwy 340 and mile markers reverse)

Nestled in a giant valley, the most remote fishing village on Maui. Great view from overlook of village, church, ocean and Kahakuloa Head (Elephant Mountain)

Caution: drive carefully. Winding, steep and narrow road. Watch for falling rocks.
