POLIPOLI SPRING STATE PARK DRIVE GUIDE

Magical Misty Groves of Fern and Redwood

Approx. 53 miles round-trip from Start of Drive (Kahului at corner of Hwy 380 & 36).
Allow 4 to 5 hours for round-trip from Start of Drive including time spent at "stops".
No gas, food or drinking water in park.
Drive carefully-watch for cattle on Polipoli access road.
Descend mountain in low gear.
Dress for altitude and/or activities. At high elevations weather is often cold and/or wet.
Stay on maintained trails to protect plant and animal life. Leave no scars on the land.
Effect of high elevation on pregnant women, young children and persons with heart and/or respiratory problems should be considered.
4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
Last 4 miles of tour are over unpaved road.
Driving on unpaved road may be prohibited by car rental company. (Trip is worthwhile even if you have to end it at unpaved road.)

STOP 1:	WEST MAUI OVERLOOK	PHOTOGRAPH
START:	KAHULUI AT HWY 380 & 36

WATCH FOR:	Mile Marker 13-Hwy 37

ROUTE:

Turn right off Hwy 380 onto Hwy 36 E
Go 2 miles to Jct. Hwy 36 & 37
Turn right onto Hwy 37
Go 13.6 miles on Hwy 37 to Mile Marker 13
Go short way (0.6 mile) beyond Mile Marker 13 to wide, unmarked dirt pull-off (right side-across from Rice Memorial Park)

Elevation 3,000 feet. Panoramic view of West Maui.

STOP 2:	POLIPOLI ACCESS ROAD	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	WEST MAUI OVERLOOK
DIST/TIME:	1.4 Miles/Approx. 7 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	Jct. Hwy 37 & 377

ROUTE:

Continue a short way (0.2 mile) on Hwy 37 to Jct. Hwy 37 & 377
Turn left onto Hwy 377
Go short way (0.4 mile) to Waipoli Road (first turn on right side)
Turn right onto Waipoli Road
Go uphill short way (0.8 mile) to the access road leading to Polipoli Spring State Park

Breathtaking views of Central and West Maui.

Caution: steep, narrow and winding road through Kaonoulu ranch land-stay on road, don't trespass.

STOP 3:	POLIPOLI STATE PARK	PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE:	POLIPOLI ACCESS RD. ENTRANCE
DIST/TIME:	9 Miles/Approx. 45 Mins.
WATCH FOR:	Last 4 Miles (Unpaved & Rough, Muddy after Rain)

ROUTE:

Continue 8.4 miles on Polipoli access road to fork in the road.
Take right fork and go short way (0.6 mile) to Polipoli Spring State Park

Elevation 6,200 feet in Kula Forest. Miles of hiking trails through magical misty groves of fern, redwood, cedar, pine, and cypress. Great birdwatching. Picnic area, campgrounds, cabin, cave.

Note: free admission. Park is always open unless weather conditions are very severe. Restrooms.

Caution: watch for wild boars, goats, hunters! Water supply unsuitable for drinking.
