ROAD TO HANA DRIVE GUIDE
(Second Half)

Hawaiian Villages, Black & Red Sand Beaches, Caves, Heavenly Hana, Waterfalls and Pools

  • Approx. 131 miles round-trip from Start of Drive (Kahului at corner of Hwy 380 & 36).
  • Allow at least 8 hours for round-trip from Start of Drive including "stops" below. (If combining drive with Road to Hana-First Half, allow a minimum of 10 hours for round-trip to include both drives.)
  • Start drive early in day-don't return in dark.
  • Drive slowly and carefully-Road to Hana has 56 bridges and more than 600 curves.
  • For your safety, please observe Cautionary Notes on drive "stops" below.
  • Set Odometer to Zero between "stops" below.
  • All distances are to the nearest tenth of a mile.

STOP 1: WAIANU FRUITSTAND PHOTOGRAPH
START: KAHULUI AT HWY 380 & 36  
DIST/TIME: 33.4 Miles/Approx. 70 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 17-Hwy 360  
 ROUTE:
  • Turn right off Hwy 380 onto Hwy 36 E
  • Go 33.4 miles to Waianu Fruitstand (right side) (After 15.6 miles, at Jct. Hwy 36 & 365, Hwy 36 becomes Hwy 360 and mile markers start again at zero.)
Famous for shave ice and banana bread. Open daily.




STOP 2: WAILUA OVERLOOK PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: WAIANU FRUITSTAND  
DIST/TIME: 1.8 Miles/Approx. 5 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 19-Hwy 360  
 ROUTE:
  • Continue to sign for "St. Gabriel's Church" at paved overlook (left side)
Breathtaking view of an old Hawaiian village: "Our Lady of Fatima" shrine. Taro patches.




STOP 3: WAIKANE FALLS PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: WAILUA OVERLOOK  
DIST/TIME: 0.3 Mile/Approx. 1 Min.  
WATCH FOR: Next Bridge  
 ROUTE:
  • Continue to waterfalls at next bridge
Spectacular triple waterfalls and pool.




STOP 4: NAHIKU VILLAGE PARK PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: WAIKANE FALLS  
DIST/TIME: 8.3 Miles/Approx. 13 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 25-Hwy 360  
 ROUTE:
  • Continue 5.7 miles to dirt pull-off (right side-just beyond first bridge after Mile Marker 25)
  • Entry road for Nahiku is on left side of the road
  • Take entry road 2.6 miles to park at end of road
Nahiku's beautiful winding drive through lush tropical forest, secluded village, old rubber plantation, ending at great ocean view park. Perfect for picnic.

Note: please do not litter. Protect and preserve the Aloha. Please respect cultural privacy.

Caution: descend road to village in low gear.




STOP 5: WAIANAPANAPA PARK PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: NAHIKU VILLAGE PARK  
DIST/TIME: 10.3 Miles/Approx. 33 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 32-Hwy 360  
 ROUTE:
  • Leave village park and return to Hwy 360
  • Turn left onto Hwy 360 and go 7 miles to entry road for Waianapanapa State Park (left side-sign for park is just beyond Mile Marker 32)
  • Turn left onto entry road and go short way (0.5 mile) to park office. Turn left and go short way (0.2 mile) to far parking lot
A 120 acre park boasting Maui's most famous black sand beach, fresh water caves, historical sites, blow holes. Hike along an ancient Hawaiian coastal lava trail leading to Hana.

Note: Picnic areas, campgrounds, cabins. For information call 808-984-8109. Restrooms.

Caution: Swim at your own risk-strong currents.




STOP 6: HANA TOWN PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: WAIANAPANAPA PARK  
DIST/TIME: 3.5 Miles/Approx. 11 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Sign-Hasegawa General Store  
 ROUTE:
  • Leave far parking lot and return short way (0.7 mile) to Hwy 360
  • Turn left and go 1.7 miles to Jct. Hwy 360 & 31
  • Keep to right on Hwy 360
  • Continue 1.1 mile to Hasegawa General Store parking lot (left side-past Hotel Hana-Maui)
Hana: an isolated paradise. Fishing wharf, bay, cattle ranch, cultural center and museum, churches, art galleries, shops, restaurants, Hotel Hana-Maui, Hasegawa General Store.




STOP 7: HAMOA BEACH PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: HANA AT HASEGAWA STORE  
DIST/TIME: 2.6 Miles/Approx. 8 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Small Sign-Hamoa Village, Koki Beach & Hamoa Beach  
 ROUTE:
  • Turn left out of Hasegawa parking lot
  • Continue 1.5 mile on Hwy 360 to Haneoo Road (Hwy 360 soon becomes Hwy 31 and mile markers reverse.)
  • Turn left onto Haneoo Road and go 1.1 mile around Koki Peninsula to Hamoa Beach
  • Park opposite bus stop for Hotel Hana-Maui and walk down path to beach
Hamoa, one of Hawaii's most spectacular beaches hidden on beautiful Koki Peninsula. Great view of Alau Island along the way. Koki red sand beach.

STOP 8: WAILUA FALLS PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: HAMOA BEACH AT BUS STOP  
DIST/TIME: 4.8 Miles/Approx. 16 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 45-Hwy 31  
 ROUTE:
  • Continue short way (0.4 mile) beyond beach to end of Haneoo Road
  • Turn left onto Hwy 31 and go 4.4 miles to Wailua Falls (0.2 mile beyond Mile Marker 45)

Spectacular 100 foot Falls-one of Maui's most photographed.

STOP 9: KIPAHULU DISTRICT
(HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK)		 PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: WAILUA FALLS  
DIST/TIME: 2.8 Miles/Approx. 12 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 42-Hwy 31  
 ROUTE:
  • Go 2.5 miles to sign for Haleakala National Park
  • Continue short way (0.3 mile) beyond sign to parking lot (left side-after bridge)

Beautiful streams and pools. Subtropical rain forest. Cultural exhibits and demonstrations. Hike to waterfalls. Camping.

Note: for information on hiking and other activities call the Ranger Station at 808-248-7375. Restrooms.

Caution: swim at your own risk. Rocks are slippery and water levels are subject to rapid change.

 

STOP 10: LINDBERGH'S GRAVE PHOTOGRAPH
LEAVE: HALEAKALA NAT'L PARK (KIPAHULU)  
DIST/TIME: 1.2 Mile/Approx. 4 Mins.  
WATCH FOR: Mile Marker 41-Hwy 31  
 ROUTE:
  • Leave parking lot. Turn left onto Hwy 31 & go 1 mile to sign for Palapala Hoomau Congregational Church (left side, first road after Mile Marker 41)
  • Turn left and go short way (0.2 mile) to church
Grave site of the famous aviator Charles A. Lindbergh.

Note: please remember this is a cemetery and leave everything exactly as you found it.
