From ancient times, Malaekahana has been known as a magical place, serving as a "Puuhonua" (Place of Refuge). Today, as the first native-run Hawaiian State Park area, it is still a haven (and one of the safest campgrounds in Hawaii). No pool, no TV, no phone - only the sound of the surf to distract you.

THE CAMPGROUND



Malaekahana State Recreation Area (Kahuku Section) is a gated 37-acre wooded beach park with 24 hour on-site security. Malaekahana is as safe as it is beautiful.
  • 40 primitive campsites with picnic tables, fire pits, toilet facilities and unique hot outdoor showers.
  • 5 furnished camping yurts with electricity . Sleeps from 2 to 6 people (3x15' diameter, 1x20' diameter, 1x24' diameter).

FEATURES OF THIS NATURAL PARADISE

The gentle waters of Malaekahana Bay are safe for all water sports - from boogie boarding to snorkeling.
  • Fishing from nearby Makahoa Point is some of the best on the Windward Coast;
  • Endangered sea turtles (honu) make Malaekahana Bay their home;
  • For birders, the James Campbell National Refuge is only a short hike from the beach;
  • Just 600 feet offshore is Moku Auia Seabird Sanctuary (Goat Island), home to over 10 species of seabirds.
CAMPSITE RENTAL RATES
  • Campsites: $5:00 per person per night (children under age 8 are free);
  • Camping Yurts: $40 to $60 per night.
POLICIES
  • Check In Time: after 12 noon.
  • Check Out Time: by noon.
  • Cancellation Fee: No refund for cancellation inside of 30 days. Please contact the property for Cancellations.
  • Tax: Add 4%.
  • No Pets Allowed!! Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and fireworks are also prohibited under Hawaii State Park Regulations.
RESERVATIONS:

Office hours: Mon-Fri from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Reservations are taken up to a year in advance and can be made via phone, fax or email. Deposit must be made within 7 days to confirm reservation and balance is due at least 14 days before check-in. There is a 2 night minimum stay for all advance reservations.
