ABOUT THE KAHILI |
![]() ©Ann Cecil |
In
the past, this tall wooden pole, its top crowned with a cylinder of
colored feathers, announced the appearance of Hawaiian royalty. Today,
the "Keep It Hawaii" carved Kahili award symbolizes excellence
in product and deed. It is given to honor preservation of the Hawaiian
spirit. It is displayed with great pride by the recipients. |
The Kahili Award belongs, in large measure, to our former webmaster and friend, the late R. Keith Norris. A distinguished man and colleague whose inspired work honored the Hawaiian spirit. He was the designated Pa'a Kahili (standard bearer) - the standard by which others are measured. The Alternative-Hawaii web site is dedicated to his memory. |
