SPECIAL EVENTS

HOME & HOSPITAL - A TOUR & TALK STORY
Place: Koloa Missionary Church, 3373 Poipu Road, Koloa, Kauai
Date: 12/4/2009 through 12/4/2009
The Kauai Historical Society is pleased to present “Home & Hospital—A Tour & Talk Story,” at the former homestead of Dr. A. H. Waterhouse with guest speaker Reverend Niles Kageyama. The lecture will be held Thursday, December 04, 2008 at 5:30 pm, at the Koloa Missionary Church, 3373 Poipu Road, Koloa, Kauai. Built in 1897 by Dr. Jared Smith, the former home and hospital of Dr. A.H. Waterhouse still stands today on Poipu Road in Koloa. The property is now home to the Koloa Missionary Church, which bought the property in 1953. Please join us for a talk story with “Koloa boy” and history buff Reverend Niles Kageyama. Pastor Niles will walk us through the church grounds and buildings, highlighting the Smith-Waterhouse family’s early past, and adding some of his own personal memories and collected stories about this historical site. With the aging structure facing an uncertain future, this is a special opportunity to walk through its doors to the past. This Kauai History Series event is free although donations are welcome. Limited to only 50 people, please RSVP at 245-3373 by Tuesday, Dec. 02, 2008. Refreshments will be served. This presentation of the Kauai History Series is by the Elsie Brown Foundation, and the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Events are subject to change without notice. For updates, please contact KHS or visit our website at www.kauaihistoricalsociety.org
