OBON DANCE & FESTIVAL - WAIALUA HONGWANJI MISSION Place: WAIALUA HONGWANJI MISSION, 67-313 Kealohanui St, Waialua, HI 96791, (808) 625-0925 Date: 8/2/2008 The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making. FIREWORKS BY SAIL Place: Waianae Boat Harbor, Slip A-11, Waianae, HI 96792, (808) 306-7273 Date: 8/10/2008 Its not Fourth of July but there will be a grand Fireworks Display Aug. 9th, right over the ocean of the leeward coast as part of Waianae's Sunset on the Beach. If you didnt catch our sold-out 4th of July fireworks sail, here's your second chance! During this moonless period, Mother Nature will also have her own brilliant display of stars, including the Milky Way, best viewed at sea, away from city lights. HULA FILM FESTIVAL AT BISHOP MUSEUM Place: Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice St, Honolulu, HI 96817, 848-4187 Date: 8/12/2008 The Bishop Museum Association Council's new Traditions of the Pacific: HULAFILM FESTIVAL begins in February 2008 and continues through November 2008with a film-a-month event presented on selected Tuesday nights at Atherton Halau onthe grounds of Bishop Museum. Films will include a special introduction bya Bishop Museum cultural expert or special guest affiliated with the film.General admission to the film screenings is $5; Free for Bishop Museummembers. FULL MOON, SUNSET, INTIMATE SAIL CRUISE Place: Waianae Boat Harbor, Slip A-11, Waianae, Oahu, HI 96792 Date: 8/14/2008 through 8/16/2008 A quest to experience two of nature's most awesome sights - a glorious Hawaiian sunset, and the full moon's path across the water. The boat departs an hour before sunset in hopes of seeing feeding dolphins. Romantic and serene on private 42 ft. catamaran, limited seats (6 -16 passengers)and wholesome dinner included. 2008 MADE IN HAWAII FESTIVAL Place: Neal Blaisdell Center, 777 Ward Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96814, (808) 533-1292 Date: 8/15/2008 through 8/17/2008 Every August, the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu is transformed into the 50th State's largest marketplace for Hawaii-made wares. This year's Made in Hawaii Festival, expected to draw the largest attendance yet with more than 35,000 attendees, will be held August 15-17, 2087 at the Neal Blaisdell Center. The 2008 Made in Hawaii Festival is sponsored by First Hawaiian Bank and produced by the Hawaii Food Industry Association. Free cooking demonstrations and delicious food samples by Hawaii's talented chefs and award-winning entertainment by popular local musicians adds to the festive atmosphere. |

7TH ANNUAL DUKE'S OCEANFEST Place: Waikiki Beach - various locations, Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, HI 96815, 545-4880 Date: 8/17/2008 through 8/24/2008 In honor of Duke Kahanamoku, Waikiki's biggest and most diverse ocean sports festival will present a host of enjoyable events and activities at the 7th Annual Duke's OceanFest, August 17-24. |

2008 OAHU - HAWAII HEALING GARDEN FESTIVAL Place: 59-864 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712, 808-638-0888 Date: 8/23/2008 through 8/27/2008 A Celebration of the Cultural Healing Arts of Hawaii! Festivals are held Statewide on Kauai, Oahu, Maui & Hawaii Island. The Oahu Festival starts August 23-24, at Waimea Valley - Hiipaka Center, with Saturday's Celebration & Concert, and Sunday's Workshop & Tour Day. NA HULA FESTIVAL Place: Queen Kapiolani Regional Park, 2805 Monsarrat Avenue, A, Honolulu, HI 96815, (808) 768-3041 Date: 8/23/2008 through 8/24/2008 Beginning in 1941, the City and County of Honolulu's NÄ? Hula Festival has celebrated the artistry and grace of Hawai'i's premiere dance form - Hula. The NÄ? Hula Festival is Hawai'i's longest running annual, noncompetitive hula event. This hula festival began as a means to provide a venue for the kumu hula of the Department of Parks and Recreation to hÅ?'ike their haumÄ?na. Currently, some of the kumu who participate in the hula festival teach in the parks, and some of the other kumu are from the community.
