I was born and raised in Wyoming - living in Alaska and Washington. After 12 years in Seattle, I began feeling the increasing stress of urban life, and felt the need for a more simplistic, self-sufficient lifestyle. Why not Paradise? Hawaii! A friend said, "You're crazy if you don't, Wanda!" That was all the encouragement I needed and found myself on the slopes of Mauna Loa, in the middle of an old native forest. Living in this peaceful environment has deepened my appreciation of nature and has allowed me the time and space to develop my musical and artistic interests.

Since my move to the Big Island, I have been creating a Rural Retreat, consisting of three vacation homes nestled in the native forest. This has been both challenging and rewarding. Some of the most joyful time in my life has been in building these accommodations. I take pride in the fact that they have been built from recycled materials and are off-grid with simplistic solar energy systems. The Ohana House with its steam room and massage studio has attracted others and has proven to be a healing space for all.
This rural community, attractive to those with a pioneer spirit, is one of the most affordable areas left in Hawaii and I am delighted to share this peaceful retreat with my guests. I am but a driveway away. |
