New Year's 'Ohana Festival

As part of its New Year's traditions, the JCCH will ring in 2009 with its New Year's 'Ohana Festival. This fun-filled event will feature food, crafts, entertainment and cultural and martial art demonstrations of the people who make up this island state. Keiki can also enjoy games and make-and-take activities throughout the day. The New Year's 'Ohana Festival will be a great way for the community to come together and celebrate 2009!

The Breathe Concert: Clean Air For Everyone
Place: Hawaii Theatre Center, Honolulu

Celebrating 80 years of serving Hawaii, the American Lung Association of Hawaii presents The Breathe Concert. Performers: Amy Hanaialii; George Kuo, Martin Pahinui & Aaron Mahi & hula dancer, Kanoe Miller; Sonya Mendez; Sean Naauao; Roy Sakuma & the students of the Roy Sakuma Studio; Jake Shimabukuro; Mihana Souza; Leon Williams; and Lea Woods Friedman. TYVA KYZY (Daughters of Tuva): Traditional Tuvan Throat Singing
Place: Leeward Community College Theatre

Tyva Kyzy, from the Russian republic of Tuva, is the first and foremost all-woman ensemble that perform in the main styles of Tuvan throat singing, known as khoomei. This multiple-tone harmonic singing is the most well-known form of Tuvan performance folkore and has attracted many enthusiasts for its almost unearthly beauty.
