PET BLESSING FESTIVAL Place: 1239 Olomea Street (off Houghtailing St), Honolulu, HI 96817, 721-2935 Date: 6/1/2008 Come celebrate all creatures at our Pet Blessing Festival held in observance of "Pet Appreciation Week." Bring your leashed or caged pets for a complimentary blessing on Sunday, June 1, 2008 any time between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Reservations are not required. Lots of street parking on Olomea Street and in the shrine "barking" lot. |

WORLD OCEANS DAY, CELEBRATION CRUISE Place: Waianae Boat Harbor, Slip A-11, Waianae, HI 96792, (808) 306-7273 Date: 6/1/2008 through 6/8/2008 World Oceans Day was first declared in 1992, to express a shared belief in stopping the worldwide loss of marine resources. Share in "edutainment" events happening worldwide near and around that date. Aboard a private 42 ft. catamaran, we will be focusing on Hawaii's ocean resources this week. Limited to 4 -15 passengers per charter, a sensitive journey will be taken to explore dolphin habitats, turtles and reef ecosystems. Snorkel equipment and refreshments provided. ANNUAL KING KAMEHAMEHA STATUE DECORATION CEREMONY Place: South King, Honolulu, HI 96813, (808) 586-0333 Date: 6/6/2008 Prelude to the King Kamehameha statue decoration ceremonies there will be a concert by the Royal Hawaiian Band, 3:30 p.m. at the Honolulu Civic Center. The statue of King Kamehameha I, in the Honolulu Civic Center, is decorated with 13 foot floral leis, which are created on site throughout the day by volunteers. Music and Hula performances add to the colorful display; a photographer's delight, 4 p.m. |

HULA FILM FESTIVAL AT BISHOP MUSEUM Place: Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice St, Honolulu, HI 96817, 848-4187 Date: 6/10/2008 The Bishop Museum Association Council's new Traditions of the Pacific: HULAFILM FESTIVAL begins in February 2008 and continues through November 2008with a film-a-month event presented on selected Tuesday nights at Atherton Halau onthe grounds of Bishop Museum. Films will include a special introduction bya Bishop Museum cultural expert or special guest affiliated with the film.General admission to the film screenings is $5; Free for Bishop Museummembers. SUNSET ON THE BEACH Place: Waikiki Beach by Duke Statue, Honolulu, HI 96815, 923-1094 Date: 6/14/2008 through 6/15/2008 Picnic on the beach as the sun sets and the moon rises while listening to the sounds of Island Rhythms and watching classic films under the stars at 7:15 p.m., Queen's Surf Beach. Taste spectacular dishes from Waikiki's leading restaurants, 4 to 9 p.m. Event is subject to the weather. |

ROMANTIC FULL MOON, SUNSET, SOUTHERN CROSS CRUISE Place: Waianae Boat Harbor, Slip A-11, Waianae, HI 96792, (808) 306-7273 Date: 6/16/2008 through 6/18/2008 A quest to experience two of nature's most awesome sights - a glorious Hawaiian sunset, and the full moon's path across the water, along with viewing of major constellations such as the Southern Cross and the center of our galaxy near Saggittarius. Your boat departs an hour before sunset in search of feeding dolphins. Romantic and serene on private 42 ft. catamaran, limited seats (4 -15 passengers)and wholesome dinner included. 35TH ANNUAL KING KAMEHAMEHA HULA COMPETITION Place: Blaisdell Center, 777 Ward Ave., Honolulu, HI 96813, (808) 536-6540 Date: 6/21/2008 An international cultural event which features dance schools from the continental U.S., Hawaii and Japan. Dancers compete in both traditional and contemporary hula styles. Categories include male groups, female groups, combined groups, kupuna wahine (senior women) and individual chanters. Colorful event featuring as many as 500 dancers accompanied by live music by the best of island musicians.A must see event. 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. |
