LAVA TREE STATE MONUMENT

An excellent example of a forest of lava trees. This unusual volcanic feature is the result of a lava flow that swept through this forested area and left behind lava molds of the tree trunks.

STAR OF THE SEA "PAINTED" CHURCH

Father Damien's Church on the way to Kalapana. Built in 1929. (The little church was moved to the current location less than 45 minutes before lava covered its previous site.)
