Adjacent to Salt Ponds Beach Park is the site of the only functioning salt ponds in the Hawaiian Islands - where the ancient Hawaiian process of producing rock salt by evaporating seawater is still practiced.

RUSSIAN FORT ELIZABETH (1815 - 1864)
Ruins of a star-shaped fort built under an alliance between the
Russian-American Company and Kauai's King Kaumualii. The Hawaiians occupied the fort in
1817 until it was dismantled in 1864. A state historical park with a great view of Waimea Bay, Waimea River and Cook's Landing.
